Bill Fick video - Anatomy of a linocut

Here's a lovely little video I just found of Bill Fick (see earlier post here) making and printing a linocut. It shows the process from start to finish. I'm very jealous of his lovely studio and especially that electric press!!

  1. Cool, am very excited about trying this (loving his face of concentration too - in the zone!).

  3. I wish I had a press, more than 3 blades, I like linocyts of wresters too: http://pauljeffreydesign.com/other-things/

  4. What was that white stuff he brushed onto the lino in the beginning? What is its purpose?

  5. Hi Scot,
I'm not 100% sure about the white stuff he brushed on the lino but it looks like primer to me. I guess it makes it easier to draw onto the lino and also easier to see how the white areas will look before he starts carving.

  6. I think it was gesso, maybe?

  7. Hey all, that was gesso he put onto the lino, he says it gives the lino more "tooth." He confirms on his web site:
