Linocut workshop in Italy this summer

Linocut: Illustrated Narratives

I will be teaching this workshop in July in the beautiful hilltop town of Montefiore in Italy. It is one of a series of workshops being run over the summer by tutors from East London Printmakers. Situated in a medieval castle, Opificio della Rosa is a printmaking studio dedicated to low environmental impact techniques whilst facilitating traditional and innovative printmaking methods.

The workshop runs for 5 days and I recommend you come and stay a bit longer to visit the local area which is full of wonderful little historic towns and is in the Emilia Romagna region, well known for its delicious food. Florence, Bologna and Venice are all within easy reach by car or train.

Here is the workshop description:

In this workshop you will produce a series of linocuts to illustrate a story, poem or other narrative. You will develop your linocutting and printing skills while exploring howillustrations can complement and enhance your chosen text. You will be given time and guidance to plan your designs, decide on the size and format of the images and to carve and print a small edition of each linocut. The majority of the images will be monochrome (black and white) but there may be some opportunity to work in colour. Linocut is a versatile medium - it is possible to produce very accurate, detailed marks as well as a variety of textures, colour gradients and layering effects.

The workshop will be taught in English with an Italian translator and is suitable for beginners as well as those with some experience. Tools and materials will be provided.
